Artistir.com is a start-up music community that is looking to bring a change to the online music scene!
We feel that most artists, whether they are bands, standalone musicians, comedians, orchestras, or whatever, may not have the hundreds of dollars to spend on showcasing and distributing their material. Also, there really isn’t a social network aimed specifically for said artists.
Artistir is different from the other music sites in a lot of ways. We won’t ask you for any money to upgrade your membership. All of our features are available to all of our members. We also feel that there is no other site that is truly a “social network” so to speak, aimed at artists. This changes the way that artists interact with fans and other artists.
We are constantly striving to provide the best experience possible for you. We will be constantly updating the features of the site, while maintaining an easy to navigate interface.
We are a young site, compared to the other big music sites. We are also a lot different. Some have described as as the Facebook for musicians, but we like to look at ourselves as a separate entity all together.
We aim to provide musicians with all of the tools and opportunities that they need. Pretty much all of it is free of cost, unless you want to sell through the site. Then it's a measly $20/year, and that is only to help keep the site running, as we're just a couple of guys funding this site out of our own pockets. We really believe that all of the other music sites are either missing too many features, have too many (which they make you pay for), or a combination of both. They also don't seem to have the true "community" feel, other than the whole "I'll give you good comments if you do the same for me" approach.
We built this site, with the help of an excellent developer, and we will always continue to expand and add things that musicians need, as time goes on. We will always do our best to make sure that everything we add will not cost any money, as we're NOT looking to make money off of musicians. Most bands and musicians don't have the funds for that. We're looking more towards the bigger picture. We truly want a place where artists, bands, and musicians can have everything they need at their disposal, with just one website. Forums, social network integration, a stand alone music player, a place to post events or news, or anything else that we can think of. That is our vision here.
Now, about us:
Derek Arsenault - Founder / Co-Owner / President:
Derek went to school at Boston University for Computer Engineering. After dropping out for various reasons, he’s worked odd jobs such as selling hot dogs at Fenway Park, delivering pizzas, and also delivering parcels. For the past few years, Derek has been working in the IT industry, supporting a worldwide investment bank and a construction firm. Derek is also an avid Boston sports fan, especially the Bruins, as he played hockey for most of his life. When he was given the idea to create a music site, instead of creating a clone of something that is already out there, Derek envisioned something greater, something different. So Artistir was born.
Chris Sheather - Co-Owner / CEO:
Chris also has been in the IT field for several years and was a co-worker of Derek. The two became good friends. Derek initially set out to create Artistir with another partner; however, things did not quite work out. Derek needed someone he knew that he could depend on to help get Artistir on its feet, so he turned to Chris. Chris too, is an avid hockey fan. Although, being from Montreal, he is a fan of the Canadiens. Derek tries to not hold that against him. Chris initially found the financial backing of the creation of the site. Together, the two of them strive to get this community as the go to site for all artists.
